The journal "Family Medicine" published a review entitled "Modern Possibilities for Preventing Antibiotic Resistance: Bacteriophages as Antimicrobial Agents" by A.K. Duda, V.A. Boyko, L.P. Kotsyubaylo, and A.P. Golub (P.L. Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Kyiv).
This review emphasizes the need to find alternatives to antibiotics in the treatment of bacterial infections and substantiates the use and further development of phage therapy. It presents the characteristics of bacteriophages as antimicrobial agents, their advantages and disadvantages compared to antibiotics. It also presents literature data on the experience and current research on the potential of phage therapy for various diseases and conditions. It also provides a summary of the main applications of phage therapy and the advantages of using phage cocktails in the practice of physicians across various specialties.
