American publisher Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. announced the launch of a new peer-reviewed scientific journal, "PHAGE: Therapy, Applications, and Research." The journal will focus on bacteriophage research and its applications in human medicine, veterinary science, agriculture, fisheries, livestock farming, and the food industry. The journal aims to unite and develop the rapidly growing community of scientists and clinicians studying bacteriophages.
The journal's founder and editor-in-chief is Martha Clokie, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Leicester, UK. Bacteriophages: Therapy, Applications, and Research will be published four times a year, both in print and online. The first issue is scheduled for release in summer 2019.
The journal covers the following topics: phage life cycle; capsid structure and morphology; genome organization and composition; transcription regulation; the role of phages in natural ecosystems; the effect of phages on the physiology of bacteria and eukaryotes; modulation of immune responses by phages; antibiotic resistance; effect on intestinal microbiota and gastrointestinal infections; effect on infections of the lungs, skin, bladder, blood, bones, etc.; genetic engineering of phages; synthetic phages in the treatment of inflammation and cancer; the use of CRISPR-Cas systems; phages as vectors for gene transfer; vaccine creation; phages in disease diagnostics; phage lysins; phage therapy in plants and fish farms; phages and food safety; nanotechnology and materials science; phages in the delivery of drugs, genes, antibodies; new model systems for studying phage behavior; preclinical and clinical trials; Ethical and regulatory issues of phage therapy; phage therapy policy further.
