Stomatitis
- Bacteriophages are applied in treatment of stomatitis.
- Bacteriophages are applied locally (rinsing, applications) and orally (oral administration).
- Bacteriophages are applied in case of multi-resistance of causative bacteria to antibiotics.

Pain and burning in the mouth, redness and swelling of oral mucosa followed by appearance of aphthae (small round-shaped formations with distinct vermilion border and grey-yellow plaque in the centre), excessive salivation, bad breath – these symptoms are characteristic of stomatitis. In severe cases the disease may be accompanied by fever, headache, and other symptoms of general intoxication. Often the pain in mouth disturbs eating. Without adequate treatment the stomatitis can transform into a recurrent chronic form.
There are various causes of stomatitis: insufficient oral hygiene, allergic reactions, oral mucosa traumatizing with dental prosthesis or sharp edges of teeth, dental problems, herpes virus, fungal infection, digestive system diseases or cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, etc. In case of viral, fungal, or traumatic stomatitis the pathologic process exacerbates a few days after the onset of the disease by a secondary bacterial infection, first of all by opportunistic pathogenic bacteria inhabiting the mucous membrane of the mouth.
The main task in the treatment of stomatitis is to provide disinfection of the oral cavity, eliminate the pain and inflammation, and prevent spreading of the infection. For prevention and treatment of the bacterial stomatitis it is reasonable to use the bacteriophage products, in particular Pyofag® medicinal product. The bacteriophages contained in it lyze the most common causative agents of pyoinflammatory diseases of oral cavity.
In the case of stomatitis Pyofag® medicinal product is applied locally as well as orally.
The product is used to wash the mouth 3-4 times a day in the amount of 10-20 ml, as well as for applications: gauze wipe soaked in bacteriophage is applied on the area of inflammation 2 times a day.
The product is applied orally according to the age dose 3 times a day 1 hour before meals during 7-20 days.
